The other side

These days, Angelina Jolie is best known as the glamorous maternal figure to her six-strong brood, but there was a time not long ago when the world knew her as the creepy, brother-kissing, Billy-Bob Thornton's blood-wearing daughter of actor Jon Voight.

"I went through heavy darker times and I survived them. I didn't die young," the 36-year-old tells 60 Minutes' Bob Simon in a new interview airing Sunday. "I am very lucky. There are other artists and people that didn't survive certain things."

Though Simon prompted her to elaborate about which “certain things" she was referring to, the director and screenwriter of the upcoming In the Land of Blood and Honey refused to go into specifics.

"People can imagine that I did the most dangerous, and I did the worst. . . for many reasons, I shouldn't be here. You just think too many times where you came close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too, too far," Jolie ambiguously admits.

Despite growing up and starting a family with Brad Pitt, the star who was once known for her outrageous antics and frequent nudity in films such as model-biopic Gia admitted that old habits still die hard.

"I'm still a bad girl," she teases. "I still have that side of me…it belongs to Brad--or our adventures."
